With a pretty long weekend coming up, I had planned to go out and have some fun and watch a movie with some of my friends.

I just had to call everyone one last time to confirm, and as I was going through the list of people I needed to call, I couldn't get through to one of them.

The phone kept saying that "The Wireless Customer Is Not Available," which made no sense as I texted her a few hours ago.

I had to find out what was wrong and get through to my friend because we never left anyone behind.

To do that, I went to my phone provider's website and a general user forum for mobile networks.

I managed to compile everything that I had found, and with a little bit of trial and error and some help from some friendly people online, I fixed the issue and got through to my friend.

This guide is a result of that research which should help you fix the "Wireless Customer Is Not Available" error in seconds.

"The Wireless Customer Is Not Available" means that the recipient you are trying to call cannot be reached or is available to take calls. This can mean that the recipient has issues with their mobile service or a software bug on your phone that resulted in the message not going through.

Read on to know how you can still message someone if you think they've blocked you and what you can do if the mobile operator you are on is experiencing an outage.

What Does The Wireless Customer Is Not Available Message Mean?

When you try to call someone, expect them to answer, but hear a voice saying, "The Wireless Customer Is Not Available," it sure can bring whatever you are doing to a screeching halt.

But what this message means is that your mobile service cannot reach the person you've dialed.

This can happen if the call recipient is in an area where there is no cell coverage.

If you know they are in an area with coverage, then the chances are that they've blocked your number or their phone operator is experiencing an outage,

Issues with your phone and the recipient's phone can also cause this message to play.

Now that you have understood what this message means and why it might have happened to you, its time to get to troubleshooting it.

Message The Recipient

If you cannot get through to the person you are trying to call, there is an alternative that you can try.

Use iMessage if you are on Apple or send a text to them through any social media channels they are on.

Most social media like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook allow you to message them on their phone, so try getting through them with these services.

You can also try calling them using the internet with services like Messenger from Facebook or Google Voice.

Check If You Or The Recipient Blocked Each Other

Your phone service provider can't tell you if the recipient has blocked your number, so the best thing you can do is to ask the recipient directly.

Use the avenues that I had talked about to get through to the recipient.

Ask them if they have blocked you; if they accidentally did it, they can unblock you.

Alternatively, you can check if you've blocked the number you've tried to dial and unblock them if they were.

To unblock someone if you are on iPhone:

  1. Open Contacts app. You can also use the Phone app for this.
  2. Scroll down or use the search function to the contact to unblock.
  3. Open the contact and scroll down.
  4. If you seeUnblock this Caller, select it and confirm the unblocking.

To unblock someone if you are on Android:

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. SelectMore.
  3. Go toSettings >Blocked numbers.
  4. Select the number you want to unblock and then tap Clear, then Unblock.

After unblocking the number or getting your number unblocked, try calling the recipient again to see if the message plays again.

The Recipient's Phone Might Be Off

Some phones and service providers default to this message if the phone is turned off.

To get around this, you can try using any channel of communication that does not need a phone to work.

For example, you could message them on Facebook or send them an e-mail if you know their e-mail address.

Ask them to call you back when they can if its something you can't communicate through an e-mail or text.

Reinsert Your SIM Card

Sometimes, the issue can happen if your SIM card is the one at fault here.

A SIM card that doesn't work properly can fail to let your phone connect to a mobile network for calls.

To fix a SIM issue, try taking out the SIM card from your phone if your operator allows you to and reinsert it.

To do this on iPhone:

  1. Check the side of your iPhone opposite to the volume and mute keys to find the SIM slot.
  2. Straighten out a small paperclip into a long piece of wire. You'll need this to eject the SIM. You can also use the SIM ejector tool that comes with your iPhone if it is carrier unlocked.
  3. Insert the tool or the paperclip into the hole next to the SIM tray.
  4. Gently apply some pressure for the SIM tray to pop out.
  5. Pull the SIM tray out.
  6. Remove the SIM card and wait for 10-15 seconds.
  7. Put the SIM card back in the tray and insert it back into your phone.

To do this on Android:

  1. Find the SIM slot on your Android phone. You can check both sides of your phone. Look for a small cutout with a pinhole near it.
  2. Get a SIM removal tool or a paperclip that's bent out and insert its end into the pinhole.
  3. Gently push, and the SIM card tray will pop out a little bit.
  4. Pull the SIM tray out and take the SIM card out.
  5. Wait for at least 10-15 seconds before inserting the SIM.
  6. Put the tray back into its slot.

After reinserting the SIM card, try making the call again and seeing if the message plays again.

Check For Service Outages

Reachability issues can also happen if the operator you or the recipient are on is experiencing outages.

Contact your mobile network operator's customer support to find out if there is an outage in your or your recipient's area.

They will confirm if that's the case or not and give you a timeframe as to when a fix will drop.

The best thing to do would be to wait until the outage gets fixed.

Restart Your Phone

If your SIM card wasn't the issue, and your operator wasn't experiencing any outages, the chances are that your phone is the culprit here.

You can fix most problems with your phone by restarting it, resolving any software bug that might have prevented your phone from connecting to the recipient.

To restart your iPhone:

  1. Press and hold either the volume key or the side key and release it when the slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider over to let the phone turn off.
  3. Press and hold the button on the phone's right side until the Apple logo appears to turn it back on.

To restart your Android phone:

  1. Press and hold the power button on the sides of the phone until a set of options appear.
  2. Select Restart if you have the option; otherwise, choose Power Off.
  3. If you had selected Restart, the phone would automatically come back on. However, if you had selected Power Off, you'll need to hold the power button again to turn the phone back on.

After the phone restarts, try calling the person again and see if the message plays.

Contact Support

If none of these troubleshooting steps work out for you, do not hesitate to call your phone provider's customer support.

They can help you with any coverage or other service-related issues more accurately, thanks to the file they have on you.

Tell them what your issue is, and support will direct you towards more fixes that you can try.

Final Thoughts

If you are on Verizon, you can use Verizon's online messaging service to send messages to the recipient if they are unresponsive.

Log in to your Verizon account, and set up the online messaging service to send messages online.

If sending a message results in a "Message Not Sent: Invalid Destination Address" error, you can try adding more credit to your account or refrain from using short code messages.
